History

The School of Political Science and Public Administration of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) can be traced back to the Department of Politics which was founded in 1985, offering Politics major and Education major at that time, and hosted the early-generation scholars including DU Ruji, YUN Guang and XU Liming. In 1988, the Department of Politics changed its name into the Department of Politics and Management. In November 1999, under the reform of upgrading departments into schools, the School of Politics and Management was established. It set up three undergraduate majors -- Politics, Public Administration and Business Administration -- and a division of Fundamental Theories of Marxism and Leninism. It also defined the school motto and teaching philosophy to be “pragmatism, self- improvement, inclusiveness and innovation.” In June 2002, when CUPL re-organized its old academic establishments into 12 teaching units, the School of Political Science and Public Administration was established and it began to offer four undergraduate majors, namely, Politics and Administration, International Politics, Administrative Management, and Public Affairs Management.
